Seizures occur due to abnormal electrical activity in the brain. Symptoms vary by type, but here are the most common signs
✔ Without loss of awareness:
Twitching or numbness in one body part (arm, face).
Sudden sense of fear, déjà vu, or strange smells/tastes. ✔ With impaired awareness:
Blank staring, lip-smacking, or repetitive movements.
Confusion lasting minutes after the seizure.
✔ Tonic-Clonic (Grand Mal):
Loss of consciousness + full-body stiffening (tonic phase).
Jerking movements (clonic phase).
Foaming at the mouth, tongue biting.
Fatigue/confusion afterward.
✔ Absence (Petit Mal):
Brief (5–10 sec) staring spells (common in children).
No memory of the episode.
✔ Atonic ("Drop Attacks"):
Sudden loss of muscle control (falls without warning).
✔ Myoclonic:
Quick, shock-like jerks (arms/legs).
✔ Symptoms similar to focal/generalized seizures, but unclear origin
? Seizure lasts >5 minutes (status epilepticus). ? Second seizure occurs immediately.
? Injury during seizure (head trauma, broken bone).
? Difficulty breathing after seizure ends.
? First-time seizure (to rule out stroke, infection, or tumor).
✔ New or worsening seizures (even if brief).
✔ Confusion or weakness lasting hours after a seizure.
✔ Seizures during sleep (unremembered episodes).
✔ Risk factors: Family history, brain injury, or stroke.
Diagnostic Tests:
EEG (brain wave activity).
MRI/CT scan (checks for tumors, scars).
